Clear up the litter on Midsummer Common, Cambridge

Midsummer Common is a wonderful wild bit of meadowland right in the heart of Cambridge and we are very lucky to have it. Sadly though it suffers from the blight of litter bugs and, unlike other green spaces in the centre of town (e.g. Parker's Piece), is not regularly cleared up by the council. As summer approaches and more people picnic, drink and relax on the grass I fear the litter will only get worse.
Not only is the litter unsightly but it is potentially dangerous for the wildlife and cows on the common.
Litter attracts litter so clearing up what is there at any one time would help to keep the common tidy in the future.
It needn't be a huge operation just pick up a few bits of litter as you pass through the common and drop them off in one of the well placed bins on the exit or entrance.
Take all your litter to a bin or home with you, plus at least one extra bit and you can feel happy that the common is a better place than when you arrived.
Enjoy seeing the common looking beautiful with the knowledge that you are helping to keep it that way.

I think i use to live in the same village as you- Shepreth. Stick to village life and stay out the cities, they are oly going to get worse.
(But will do my bit next time i am in town if you think it will help) - Chip
Should do the same for all the greens and commons in Cambridge. Parkers is the worst though- especially after the weekend!

Midsummer Common is lovely and should be kept that way. Well done for doing this and I will be sure to pick something up (like you suggest) next time I cross the common.
